Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Review:

In this book we are introduced to Scarlet, Marissa Meyer’s take on Little Red Riding Hood. She’s frantically searching for her grandmother who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And with the help of Wolf, a street fighter, the two are out on a mission to track down her down. Scattered throughout are chapters about Cinder and Kai so readers can keep tabs on what they are up to too.

In the original, Wolf is supposed to be the “big bad wolf” so I was wary of him and his motives from the beginning. Scarlet is no Cinder but going forward I would love to see how their relationship will develop and with the two other fairy tale princess we have yet to meet as well.

Before starting Scarlet, I was so worried that there would not be enough of Cinder for my liking. I would say that this book is ¾ Scarlet and ¼ Cinder and Kai which was just enough to tide me over. I love how there are parts of Scarlet and Cinder’s storylines which intertwine until it gets to the point where you can’t wait until these two finally are able to meet up.

Scarlet was a great follow-up to Cinder and one which will have you flipping the pages as there’s never a dull moment, with different things happening to Scarlet, Cinder and Kai.

  2. YAY YAY YAY JENNY!!!! I'm so glad you loved this book too! I was worried there wouldn't be enough Cinder in it as well, but I was really pleasantly surprised with the balance and how their stories overlapped in a few places. Can't wait to see what happens in book three:)
